Decatur Police Investigate Break-Ins, Bicycle and Auto Thefts

A store employee chased a suspect but he got away.

This information comes from Decatur police reports.

An employee of Color Wheel at 112 Church St. witnessed a blue-green mountain bike being stolen Jan. 16.

The employee said she looked out the window that morning and saw a small black male ride up to the business on a scooter. He lay his scooter on the ground and rode off on the bike that had been leaning against the front entrance ramp.

The employee chased the youth, described as about 14-15 years old and wearing a blue sweat shirt, but lost sight of him at Church Street and East Trinity Place. The bike was valued at $100. The scooter was placed into custody.

A resident in the 100 block of Lockwood Terrace noticed Jan. 12 that the door to his storage shed was ajar. He found the lock damaged and shoe scuff marks on the door. Missing from the shed were two bikes, a red and white Trek 300 mountain bike and a maroon hybrid cruiser, each valued at $300. The resident last saw the bikes Jan. 7 and doesn't know how long the door was ajar.

 

Residents of the 300 block of Hillcrest Avenue said their apartment was burglarized, though only an $80 cell phone was reported missing. The residents said they left about 11:35 Jan. 15 with all doors locked and returned about 9:15 p.m. Jan. 16 to find the front door unlocked. One bedroom had been ransacked, but the residents didn't know what else was missing.

 

A resident of Insbruck Condominiums at 510 E. Ponce de Leon Ave. told police her unit was burglarized Jan. 16.

She left about 6:30 p.m. that day and returned about 9 p.m. to find a rear sliding glass door ajar. Missing from her son's room were an iPad worth $500, an iPod worth $200 and two sets of earphones worth $200 each.

The residents said a friend of the son had unexpectedly visited earlier in the day and may have been looking over the electronics.

 

A 1994 Honda Accord was stolen Jan. 17 from in front of Las Brasas restaurant at 310 E. Howard Avenue. A man said he saw his car parked on the street about 3 p.m. but noticed it was gone five minutes later. the car was green with a sunroof. A toolset worth $120 was inside.
