Decatur Police Interrupt Burglary

One suspect arrested in break-in on North Candler Street.

Decatur police arrested a man Nov. 9 after interrupting a burglary in progress at a house in the 100 block of North Candler Street. 

A police report said officers went to the house after a complainant reported seeing two males enter the house through a window. An officer noticed a window missing from the garage door and heard noises coming from inside the garage.

The officer saw two males enter the house through a connecting door. They ran out the front door and one was taken into custody after a brief chase, the report said.

The resident of the house arrived and told police it appeared a laptop computer, clothing and jewelry had been taken from the garage and a basement bedroom and a DVD player from the living room. Police said all the items were found inside a backpack and a suitcase the suspects dropped.

Joe Bonner, no address provided, was charged with burglary and taken to the DeKalb County Jail.

Decatur police are investigating a burglary that occurred Nov. 7 at a house on Woodland Court.

According to a report, the victim told police she locked and left her house about 7:45 a.m. and returned about 7 p.m. to discover the place had been broken into. Officers noticed a window pane on the rear patio door was shattered and the door appeared to be unlocked.

These items were reported missing: a black Sony 42-inch flat screen television valued at $1,800, a silver Bang Ampers Olufson stereo system valued at $7,000, a black Sony 36-inch flat screen television valued at $1,100, a white Dell standalone PC with a 24-inch monitor valued at $1,500, a silver Apple Notebook valued at $1,500, a white Toshiba mini laptop valued at $800, and a black Sony DVD player valued at $150. 

The resident said the cleaning company came to the house at some time that day, but she didn’t know when.

 

A 1992 Isuzu Rodeo was reported stolen Nov. 8 from the parking deck of the DeKalb County Courthouse. According to the police report, the car owner told officers he parked on the fourth floor and returned about 2 p.m. to find the vehicle gone. He said he could not locate his car keys, so it’s possible he dropped them near the car.

 

A Fed Ex box containing banners and sticker to be used at the Decatur Wine Festival was reported stolen, Decatur police said. The report said the items were inside the box that was placed on the front porch of the Decatur Special Events Office in the 900 block of Church Street on Nov. 4.

 

Avondale Estates police said a 2008 Toyota Highlander was reported stolen Nov. 9 from a residence on Clarendon Avenue.

The owner told police she arrived home the night before, didn't lock the vehicle and noticed it missing about 5:15 a.m. when she got up to feed the cats.

She said an extra set of keys were inside the glove box. The vehicle was valued at $18,065. A cell phone was missing, too.

 

Avondale Estates reported that two men were seen stealing a package from the doorstep of a home in the 100 block of Kingstone Road Tuesday afternoon.

The men were described as black, one light-complected and one dark-complected. Both were seen leaving in a bright blue Dodge sedan, possibly an Avenger or a Caliber.
