Decatur Man Sentenced to Two Life Terms for Murders of Gay Men

Police say robbery was the motive, not the victims' sexual orientation.

A Fulton County Judge sentenced a Decatur man to two life terms for the 2010 murders of two men attending that year's Black Gay Pride event.

Derrick Burden, 24, was convicted of murder and aggravated assault, among other charges, in the deaths of Samuel Blizzard, 21 and Calvin Streater, 26.

The Georgia Voice, which posted a story on the sentencing, reported robbery was the motive and that it was not a hate crime in the Sept. 10, 2010 incident.
