County Firefighters Driving Nearly $5M in New Equipment

DeKalb County Fire Rescue has received nine new fire trucks worth nearly $5 million. Some of the new equipment can be seen at open houses later this month.

DeKalb County firefighters are driving nearly $5 million in new fire trucks.

The department recently received nine trucks at a cost of $537,000 each, for a total of $4,833,000.

DeKalb Fire Rescue Deputy Chief Garrett Smith told WSB TV that five trucks were delivered to the stations on Flat Shoals Road, Barclay Drive, Warren Road, Montreal Road and Brockett Road.

Four more trucks will go into service on Friday at the stations located at the Emory University campus, Avondale Estates, North Druid Hills and Roberts Drive.

County residents can check out fire department equipment, see a fire safety presentation and fire extinguisher demonstration at three upcoming open houses. They are planned for:

  • Station 1, 1670 Clifton Road in Atlanta, July 23 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
  • Station 25, 7136 Rockbridge Road in Stone Mountain, July 24 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
  • Station 6, 2342 Flat Shoals Road in Decatur, July 31 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
