Copper Theft Shutters Belvedere Kroger for Second Time in a Week

For the second time this week, cooper thieves have forced the closure of the Kroger store in Belvedere Plaza.

The supermarket was closed Friday, Nov. 15 for the day as repair crews worked to replace the copper conduits and wiring thieves took from the roof of the store at 3479 Memorial Dr. in unincorporated Decatur.

It is expected to reopen Nov. 16, Glynn Jenkins, a Kroger Co. spokesman, told Decatur-Avondale Estates Patch.

DeKalb County police have at least one person in custody in the ongoing investigation, Jenkins said.

The theft, which ruined the refrigeration systems, forced the store to throw away several thousand dollars' worth of meat, dairy and other refrigerated products.

The closure is the second this week, for the same type of theft.

On Nov. 13, thieves climbed the roof and stole copper wiring, forcing the store to close that day for repairs.
