This program is meant to guide the owners of firearms through legal, safety and use concerns. It is our purpose to assist the homeowner by providing an overview of Gun Owner Responsibilities.

The instruction will also provide insight into the legal aspects of firearm ownership, both at home and away. This section will include a review of current Georgia law and how it applies to purchasing, owning, carrying, as well as using a firearm (for self-defense).

The presentation will instruct the firearm owner on how to obtain a Georgia Weapons Carry Permit along with being instructed on rendering a firearm safe and storing it in the home.

A question and demonstration session will follow the initial instructional period, allowing firearm owners to ask specific questions and get a personal demonstration with any firearms they own. This will include, but is not limited to: loading, unloading, storage, safety devices, maintenance, and ammunition selection.

Residents are encouraged to bring their "safe" firearms to the class. No ammunition will be allowed inside the building. Please limit the number of firearms to a maximum of two. This will allow Police staff to give adequate time with each owner.

All weapons must be unloaded and rendered safe before entering the building. Each firearm will be inspected prior to admittance. All firearms will be stored in a controlled location until the demonstration period. No firearms will be displayed or handled unless in the presence of a qualified Officer.

Seating will be limited to a maximum of 25 persons. Avondale Residents and Business Owners will be given first priority. No one under the age of 21 will be allowed to attend. Please RSVP to Karen Holmes at kholmes@avondaleestates.org, or call (404) 294-5400.

Please contact Corporal P. Conroy, at pconroy@avondaleestates.org, if you have any specific questions.
