Avondale Estates Woman Comes Home, Finds Burglars

Three houses in Avondale Estates have been burglarized since Oct. 4.

Avondale Estates police reported three residential burglaries in 11 days, including one in which a woman returned home last Monday and discovered two intruders in her back yard.

That incident occurred about 1:15 p.m. in the 100 block of Fairfield Drive. The woman yelled at the man and woman, which attracted the attention of other people in the neighborhood.

The man and woman jumped a fence and ran into Avondale Station Apartments, dropping some stolen loot at they ran, police said. DeKalb County police K9 unit arrived but the dogs lost the scent around Cragie Avenue.

Β Entry was made through an unlocked window, police said. The value of the stolen goods was about $2,300.

  • The morning of Oct. 10 in the 100 block of Covington Road. Police responded to an alarm and discovered the burglary, with about $20 in goods stolen. Entry was made through a window that was not securely locked, police said.
  • Between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Oct. 4 in the 3200 block of Wiltshire Drive. About $940 in cash and electronics were taken. Entry was made through a sliding glass door that was not totally secured, police said.
