Avondale Estates Robbery 'Unfounded'

The woman told officers two men robbed her Jan. 9 in the parking lot of the Juvenile Justice Center.

Avondale Estates police have determined a woman's report of an armed robbery is unfounded.

She told police that two males, one with a pistol, robbed her early in the morning of Jan. 9 while she walked through the Juvenile Justice Center parking lot at 3408 Covington Highway.

She said she was heading to the Kensington Marta Station to get to work.

Avondale Estates Police Investigator Tom Gillis said he interviewed the woman three times, talked to DeKalb County and Marta police who also came to the supposed crime scene and looked at video from the Juvenile Justice Center.

"The subject was given an opportunity to take a GBI polygraph test and let's say it came out less than favorable," Gillis said. Eventually, "she made the decision that she may not have recalled the event exactly."

Gillis said police don't plan to prosecute the woman.
