Avondale Estates Marks National Night Out For the First Time

Dewey Brown Memorial Plaza will be the site of the city's celebration

Dewey Brown Memorial Plaza, across the street from city hall, will be the site of Avondale Estate's first-ever official participation in National Night Out, Tuesday, August 2, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

This year is the 28th Annual National Night Out, an event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch. National Night Out campaigns have involved citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from over 15,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide. More thanΒ 37 million people participated in National Night Out 2010.

Avondale Estates and the Avondale Estates Police department, along with volunteers from its neighborhood watch and Citizen's Police Academy participants will be hosting the city's participation.

National Night Out is designed to:

  • Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;
  • Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs;
  • Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and
  • Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.Β
