Attempted Child Abduction Reported To DeKalb Police

A man in a black pickup truck approached a 5-year-old girl at Fenway Circle and Oldfield Road.

DeKalb County police spokeswoman Mekka Parish released this information Wednesday afternoon about a child abduction attempt. It occurred just outside the Decatur city limits off Midway Road, between South Candler Street and South Columbia Drive.

The DeKalb County Police Department is alerting the community
about a suspicious person after a five year old girl was enticed by a
stranger. According to detectives, on 6/5/2012 at approximately 4:00 p.m., the child was walking near her home by Fenway Circle and Oldfield Road when she was approached by the unidentified man.

It's reported he asked her several personal questions and invited the five year old to get inside his truck.  The child refused and ran home.  Police were notified after the child's father reported the incident.

The suspicious person is vaguely described as a white adult male driving a black pick-up truck with junk in the rear truck-bed.  Detectives are seeking the public's assistance in identifying this person for questioning.

As a result of this reported incident, patrols have increased in the
neighborhood and BOLOs have been distributed to patrol officers.  If you have any information about this case you are encouraged to call the DeKalb County Police Department's Special Victim's Unit at
(770) 724-7710.
