Dekalb and Decatur housing. Seniors only?

There have been several housing projects demolished to make way for new developments. That is wonderful and I applaud the progress.  However, as I have looked at each one they all have one thing in common, they are for seniors.  Having had a look around for housing I have found that most of the developments in Decatur are for seniors so why are they building more?  Many other people are in need of this kind of housing yet there is a vast shortage for those under the age of 55.
People who are on disability have many of the same issues that seniors have yet they are left out. According to the stated benefits that are included with disability payments food stamps and housing are things available to the recipient.  On paper that may be but in reality finding affordable housing is nearly impossible. As a senior there are many choices. Many newly built choices with wonderful amenities.  Now I am not suggesting that seniors should be denied these things but that they should not be the only ones to whom such choices are available.
Across the street from Decatur High School is not a development for families, people who may have kids in school,  but a beautiful development for seniors.  There were already condos for seniors in downtown Decatur. So now just a few miles down the street they're building more.  Still no place for those with much need who are under 55. When will you build something for the rest of us?
