Business Profile: Baking for Babies

Some parents don't get the summer off. They take care of their families and manage their own businesses. CookiesForBabies.com is run by Elizabeth Gaubeka. She makes all-natural, artisanal cookies for babies (and parents, too).

Is this your full time job? Cookies for Babies is my full time job.

How long have you had your own business? Almost two years.

What made you want to start your own company? Seeing the excitement every time I baked this healthy, simple teething biscuit  for my own daughter (that kids and grown-ups love too!), encouraged me to launch Cookies for Babies to be able to share it with everyone.

What's the scariest thing you've had to overcome to achieve your dreams? Leaving the security of my job at Google.

Advice to other parents who want to do something they love for a living? Don't stop following your interests, believes and passions, as they will take you far.

Any stores in Decatur where we can find your cookies? Where else in Atlanta? Our cookies are available at several Whole Foods Markets in Metro Atlanta including Ponce de Leon and Briarcliff. They can also be found at Harry's in Cobb and Alpharetta, and soon at other stores in the Southern region.

We are also available at Hippo Hopp, an organic and adorable place for kids and parents to relax!

We also sell online through various farmers's markets and online retailers like Foodzie.com, Abe's Market.com, Amazon.com, Ecobold.com. And in New York through Choice Greene.

How do you manage parenting and being your own boss? My day starts very early. I try to be as organized as possible and plan most of my day ahead of time. I guess, having only one child makes it more manageable. Cookies for Babies also gives me the flexibility I need (as a Mom and wife), to balance well my work-life commitments.

What do you tell your kids about your work? My daughter loves what I (we) do. She knows that she has been the inspiration for Cookies for Babies. She has also been keen to make important decisions. When we redesigned our Grab N' Go package, her input was critical when we picked the final design. She is proud to know about it. She also gives a hand on the business and she loves it!

Anything else you want to share? After I became a mom, I understood the sacrifices moms have to make to raise little ones. I also quickly realized that as moms wouldn't stop sacrificing everything for our little ones.

This is a very interesting story. I remember when I left my corporate job to start my own Public Relations business. It is a big step but I never regreted it. It's still stressful, but it's a different kind of stress when you are your own boss. My daughters are proud of me for starting a business. Good luck with your business, Elizabeth. Great post, Nicki.

Elizabeth Gaubeka of CookiesforBabies.com inspires me to be a better mom & mompreneur. My business is MommyTalkShow.com and the goal is to connect Atlanta moms with businesses they'll love to TALK about. As an Emmy award-winning journalist who has appeared on The View twice, hosting my own talk show was a natural fit for me. Unlike the daily deadlines of a TV newsroom, being a mom blogger/vlogger forces me to work around my 16 month old son's schedule. I would love to talk about how I balance it all.

Being a WHAM is tough. I own Sassie Babies (www.sassiebabies.com), accessories for mom and babies, with free monogramming everyday, and am only able to work during the evenings. My little one, who is 19 months old, needs all my attention, and I'm happy to give it to him. Balancing deadlines for customers can be a bit rough, but that's what being a WHAM is all about. I enjoy being a mom and an entrapreneur and know it is definately a balancing act, but its all worth it in the end. How do I do it? I would also love to talk about how I do it.
