Ask The Lesbian

Labels -- good, bad or indifferent.

Happy Monday! I'm sure everyone would agree with me the weekend never really seems long enough these days.

For this morning's blog topic I thought I'd write about terminology. Funny, I've been asked this question numerous times and I truly am not an expert. I come from the era when being gay was all encompassing. I know that I might not be politically correct here in saying this but I am truly happy being identified as gay.

The word lesbian is not one of my favorite words, as I truly hate to be labeled as anything but a woman. So I'll give a stab at the others.

Gay is usually used to speak of Gay Men. Lesbian is usually the word for women. Tweenk is typically described as young gay party male under 30. As far as our Transgendered folks I would be very careful with them. Whatever the individual is transitioning to is how they want to be related. If he is transitioning to a female than adress her as a female. If a woman is transitioning to a male then address him now as "sir."

The word Q in my eyes is Queer but lately I'm told it means Questioning. Bear is the word normally used for our bigger hairy folks or men that like men that way.  Leather is typically men that like or wear leather. Flamer is for the feminine gay male that reminds you of a singer from the Chorus Line.

Now there is also the lipstick lesbian which normally stands for the more feminine woman, whereas butch is used for the more rugged woman. Now inside of butch you have soft butch which is your more sporty lady or hardcore butch which is your stronger looking or manly looking woman.

Again these terms are mine they all may not be politically correct but I own them as mine. I hope this helps y'all but really just try to use the label of man or woman because I truly believe noone would be offended by those two labels. I hope this helps y'all that have been asking me about these terms.
