Poverty Is Real Raised $10,000

Poverty is Real (PIR) hit its fundraising goal .

PIR raised $10,000 through ticket and merchandise sales, a silent auction and on-site donations for the , a local group that helps the poor and homeless. 

said,

“This was truly a community-wide effort. It’s hard to overstate who offered their talents, the local businesses and donors who provided financial support, and the hundreds of music lovers who showed up and helped us reach our goal.”

Beth Vann-Turnbull, Executive Director of Decatur Cooperative Ministry said,

“This money will enable DCM to help individuals and families facing homelessness here in Decatur. By providing such significant financial support, in addition to creating more public awareness of our mission, Poverty Is Real is equipping Decatur Cooperative Ministry to help roughly 200 households – more than 1,000 individuals – in our community find their way to a brighter future. We cannot thank them enough.”

Decatur-based PIR promotes concerts that benefit local organizations fighting poverty. PIR raised $6,500 at its first concert at Eddie's Attic in 2011 and $7,500 at its second show, at the 40 Watt Club in Athens.

Remaining 2012 shows will be held in Asheville, N.C. on Sept. 8; Nashville, Tenn., on Nov. 30-Dec. 1; and Athens on Dec. 7-8.
