Hanukkah Starts At Sundown Today

Avondale Estates will light the city menorah at Dewey Brown Memorial Plaza.

Hanukkah, the eight-day Jewish holiday also known as the Festival of Lights, starts at sundown on Tuesday, Dec. 20.

In Avondale Estates, the city will light a menorah -- a nine-branched candelabrum lit during the holiday -- Tuesday at Dewey Brown Memorial Plaza, across from city hall.

City Manager Clai Brown said a resident gave the electric menorah to the town several years ago. The menorah operates on a timer and glows from dusk to dawn, he said.
