Folksinger Joins DeKalb Library Foundation Board

John McCutcheon, a singer-songwriter who has released more than 30 recordings and earned seven Grammy nominations, has been appointed to the DeKalb Library Foundation.

McCutcheon travelled to Appalachia in his early twenties to study with some of the great folk musicians, according to a bio on his management company's website. He has released several children's records but the bulk of his work focuses on political and social themes for adults. He is considered the master of numerous instruments.

McCutcheon said in the foundation board newsletter.

“When I was a young boy, every Saturday morning I would pedal my way down to the most fabulous building in my hometown, the Marathon County Public Library. It was there in the cool of the stacks that this bookish, hyperactive, socially awkward kid found both a home and a launching pad for a lifetime of loving books, reading, and libraries. When I moved to DeKalb County, Georgia in 2006, the first thing I did was get my library card.”

Other new members to the library foundation board include Sally Eggleston, chief marketing officer for Senior Connection; Mark Pollard, president of Just Leadership for Change; and Rick Garnitz, president of Life Span Services.
