Decatur Dad Wants 'Healthy Halloween'

He started initiatives to take the junk food out of Halloween and to focus attention on childhood obesity.

Dave Soleil of Decatur, founder of the nonprofit Leadership for a Healthier World, wants to make Halloween healthier for kids.

That's why he's started two new initiatives, HealthyHalloweenHouse.org and The Movement.

“Georgia has the second highest rate of childhood obesity in the country. We have a responsibility to keep our kids healthy. We can have fun and build community at Halloween without contributing to childhood obesity.”

HealthyHalloweenHouse.org has a parent’s pledge and provides fun, alternative Halloween giveaway ideas that are not junk food. The Movement is a family-friendly song and dance that kids, parents and schools can perform as a flash mob to raise awareness about childhood obesity.

Both Healthy Halloween House and The Movement are recruiting supporters and flash mob organizers through their web site: leadershipforahealthierworld.org. Schools, health organizations, parents, kids and even dance teams are encouraged to sign up.
