A good crowd turned out Monday night in Avondale Estates to witness the annual lighting of the town Christmas tree.
Boy Scouts sold hotdogs and carolers entertained. Large amounts of cider and donuts were consumed on the damp, chilly night.
Santa Claus arrived by firetruck and tossed candy to the kids, a prelude to his visit on Dec. 25.
