4 Puppies Abandoned Near Museum School

Neighbors are taking care of the young dogs, which are available for adoption.

Carolina Casares of the Forrest Hills neighborhood outside Decatur sent along this information.

On August 13th at around 1PM someone abandoned 4 small puppies (1 male and 3 females) near the abandoned buildings near Forrest Blvd. and the Museum School. With them there was an older dog with long matted hair and a tear in his ear herding them and keeping them safe. The little dogs looked to be boxer/hound mixes and the older dog a golden collie mix. All of them displayed the sweetest disposition and are very friendly.

At first glance we thought the older dog might be the mama but ruled that out immediately as they did not look at all alike. On further inspection we found that the bigger older dog was a male.

What about that a male dog not related to the puppies watching over them, a trait I wish to see more in people and one that was missing from the person who abandoned these poor little souls to their fate. I guess the old saying of “dog eat dog world” should really read “dog love dog world”.

A group of us are currently taking care of all of them and they are being vetted for adoption. The older dog is watching over them still and will be their surrogate mother till they are adopted. In the interim I have named them Taylor, Selena, Carrie, Keith and Morgan.
