DeKalb Animal Services Happy Ending and Meet Junebug and Mango Our Pets of the Week

At LifeLine Animal Project, we LOVE happy ending stories, and a few days ago, we had one at DeKalb County Animal Services (DCAS) that involved a long-distance reunion.

A very skinny Papillion was brought into the shelter after her owner surrendered her.  The staff traced a different owner's phone number from an old rabies tag, and found out the dog had originally belonged to a lady in Texas named Amy.  The staff called her and left a message, letting her know they had her former dog.

Amy called back quickly and said that she was devastated that her dog, named Denna, had been surrendered to the DCAS shelter by her new owner.  She added that she had found a new home for Denna nine-months ago, and she thought the new owner would take great care of her. She was shocked when she saw the pictures of Denna when she arrived at DCAS looking so skinny, so Amy took action.  She got right in her car and drive 15 hours to Atlanta to reclaim her.

Amy picked her Denna this past Saturday, and was so pleased with the level of service she received from everyone she interacted with at the shelter, from the customer service staff, to the intake staff to the director, that she made a nice donation to the shelter.

When she got back to Texas, Amy sent the following email to DCAS:

“Thanks to all of you who helped me get Denna back home!  She slept in my lap with her head on my chest for 2 hours straight during our 15-hour drive back and was elated to be home!  We are beyond happy to be back together!  Please thank your staff for being extra caring to me when I got there. Everyone knew her story and was so happy to see me! You all did great work with her!”
