Whoa Doggy! Pet Sitting - An Interview With A Corgi

Corgis make us smile. We haven’t exactly kept that a secret. That’s why we were so excited to have the chance to interview long time Decatur resident, Jimmy, who also happens to be a very adorable Cardigan Welsh Corgi. Jimmy, like many Corgis, has serious opinions about his day-to-day experiences as well as his likes and dislikes, and he’s not shy when it comes to sharing those opinions. When we came up with the idea to write about life in Decatur, we knew we had to get on his calendar.

I caught up with Jimmy on a warm, breezy morning, just after he ate his breakfast, drank a copious amount of water and before his mid-morning nap.

Whoa Doggy!:  “Jimmy, thanks so much for taking the time to talk with us about your experience living in Decatur. We really think our readers will enjoy learning more about it. Maybe you can start by sharing some of your thoughts in general.”

Jimmy:  “Living in Decatur is really cool. I really love it. I also love cheese. Sometimes, my mom and dad take me for walks to Decatur Square and there are so many yummy smells there!! I’ve hung out on the patio at Leon’s, and right by my parents’ feet outside at the Brickstore Pub. That’s really the perfect place to be if you want to catch the occasional french fry that drops. Sometimes my mom takes me with her to get coffee at Dancing Goats and we hang out on the patio while she reads a book. I love watching all of the people walk by,” Then Jimmy said with a good chuckle,  “and I imagine herding them all into the door.”

Whoa Doggy!:  “That sounds like a lot of fun. What does a typical day look like for you?”

Jimmy:  “Well, every day is different, really. Sometimes I take naps in the bed in the corner and sometimes I feel like napping right in the middle of the living room floor. It’s really cool that no day is the same. I always hear about dogs and cats that do the same thing day in, day out, but that’s just not for me. My human baby brother was born last year and that has really kicked things up a notch around here. That’s also about the same time that I started spending more time with my Whoa Doggy! pet sitter and dog walker. Man, we’ve had some good times.”

Whoa Doggy!:  “Tell me more about that.”

Jimmy:  “My baby brother is awesome. One of my jobs is to keep him entertained, so I let him stare at my ears. My parents are super busy entertaining him, too and that’s usually when I spend the most time with my Whoa Doggy! pet sitter and dog walker. We go for the most awesome walks. One time, a squirrel ran so close in front of us that I could almost taste it! You know what else is cool? When my Whoa Doggy! pet sitter or dog walker feeds me, they do it exactly the way my parents do it. They ask me to sit in my usual sit spot and everything! It really makes me feel good. We usually play with my favorite toys and I always get a real good belly rub before they leave. It. Is. Awesome. I really love belly rubs, almost as much as I love cheese.”

Whoa Doggy!:  “That’s so cool, Jimmy. Is there anything else you’d like to tell our readers about living in Decatur?”

Jimmy:  “Oh yeah, how could I forget? I have these really good friends at The Village Vets. Sometimes my mom and dad take me there just because everyone likes seeing me and talking about me, but this one time, I ate a piece of gum off of the ground so fast that my mom couldn’t stop me. I’m really good at that. My mom took me into the vet’s office right away. I wonder how she knew it would give me a tummy ache? Anyway, everyone was really nice and they took real good care of me like they always do. My tummy ache was gone in no time and I was back to my playtime routine that evening. Pretty cool, huh? I guess that I’d really like your readers to know how awesome it is to be me and live in Decatur. Oh! One last thing, and this is very important. It’s kind of a secret that no one really knows about and it’s really, really awesome...”

And that’s when Jimmy nodded off. I looked down at my watch and it was 10:06 on the dot, the start time for his daily mid-morning naps. This time, he chose to sleep in the middle of the kitchen floor by the AC vent. We may never find out that really cool, awesome secret that he knows, but we certainly can confirm one thing from our interview with Jimmy:  being a dog in Decatur is really cool and awesome.
