You Misunderstand Your Website. How are you Marketing your Website?

I have always created basic websites for people in my business. From way back when you had to hand code everything, up to now where you can load up a couple of pieces of software, then throw a template on it and it is done. It is much easier and prettier today than it was even 3 years ago. One of the problems that was around 10 years ago that is still around today is how businesses misunderstand their website. The problem that a majority of businesses have with misunderstanding their website is how it should be utilized to market their business.

If you build it, they will come syndrome…

That is the biggest misunderstanding people have when it comes to their website. I have talked to businesses that have spent 10k on a website they just didn’t understand why they weren’t raking in the dough and pulling tons of leads daily from it. They all have the same syndrome of, if you build it they will come, tons of people will come to your website overnight, turning you into a millionaire. This same thing is true with business Facebook pages; the thought process is still there. You want to know who the biggest pusher of this thought process is? It is a toss up, between other people who get business from their website and the website designer.

So let me dispel the myth for you, right here and now. Just because you have a website, does not mean you will suddenly have a ton of new customers overnight. Think about it for a minute, how do people know you have a website? You could have the prettiest website in the entire world, but if no one knows it is there, then all you have is a flyer in a box in your closet. My question to people who are complaining about their website and its lack of traffic is this, “how are you marketing your website?” You would think I had grown a 3rd eye, by the looks that I get when I ask most people this question.

Ask yourself the same question, how are you marketing your website? If you are not happy with the amount of traffic and purchases from your website, what are you doing about it? Are you yelling at your designer? Believe me when I tell you this, most web designers are not marketers. They may give you a spill saying that they are, but if their main business is not marketing, then they are not marketers. Me for example, I am a marketer who does websites. If you want a basic website that is setup and ready for you to market it, then I am your guy. But if you want this elaborate website that is going to require a ton of customization, I will be more than happy to help you find a phenomenal designer that will fit your needs. Then we can setup to let the world know about your new website!

I want to help you market your website! I want to get you away from this mindset of “I built it, now they will come in droves. Just like a black Friday sale or a bear to honey!” I want to see you succeed in business and having limiting mindsets such as that one only impedes your progress. I don’t care if you have the ugliest website in the world; I would rather help you market that website, than tell you to spend 10k on a redesign. How about we get you some money coming in first, then you can build up your website over the next couple of years as your business continues to grow? How about that? How about instead of spending 10k we setup a marketing plan that spends half of that, but makes you 50k over the course of the next year? Does that make more sense to you? It does to me!

So what is your website really?

Since so many people misunderstand it, what is a website supposed to do for your business? You ready?

Your website is your 24/7 marketing and sales arm of your business!

Can you afford to pay someone to market and do sales for you 24 hours a day? Well if you are a local business and have operating hours of less than 12 hours a day, then no you probably can’t or much less afford to pay someone to do that. So your website is there for people 24 hours a day 7 days a week, talking about your business and its offerings. How great is that!

How are you Marketing your Website?

Which bring me back to one of my questions, how are you marketing your website? If you don’t have at least 3 ways to market your website that you have going on daily, then you are missing out on a ton of potential business. I actually have a class that teaches you how you need to be marketing your website. Starting in January, that class will actually be online! If you are interested in learning how you can be marketing your website and get away from this lack of business, head on over to my website and sign up for my email list. This way when I open this online class up to the public, you will know about it before anyone else. Not to mention, I will be giving a huge discount to everyone on my email list.

I certainly hope that this has helped to illuminate you and your thoughts about your website. I hope that you realize that you need to be marketing your website in different areas and places, so that you can start capturing new leads and new customers, especially in the new year! A website is a great way to tell everyone what they need to know about your business, especially if it is after hours or on the weekend.
