Community Corner

2nd Annual Seed and Scion Swap

This event is free and open to all gardeners – whether you are a member of a community garden, or tend vegetables and fruit in your own yard  Join us on National Seed Swap Day to share your seeds/scions, your knowledge, and your enthusiasm for different plant varieties with other gardeners and farmers. Connect with folks who might be your neighbors, or who might be from anywhere in our bioregion. We’ll be swapping all types of seeds and cuttings for fruit trees (scions), including heirloom seeds, seeds you save from your own plants, and extra seeds you may have purchased.  There will be people on hand to answer question about how to save seed and how to graft your cuttings.Bring finger foods to share.

Partners are Wylde Center, City of Decatur, Park Pride and Slow Food Atlanta. Speaker Grant Olson from Seed Savers Exchange will present Planning Your Garden for Seed Saving. Visit Wyldecenter.org for details and to RSVP.

10:45 am- 11:45am Planning Your Garden for Seed Saving
In the days before seed catalogs, collecting and saving seeds for the next year’s garden was essential. Today, seed saving plays a critical role in preserving rare, heirloom varieties and the garden heritage they represent. Join Seed Savers Exchange to discuss the process of saving seed from garden fruits and vegetables – tomatoes, squash, peppers, melons, beans, and more - and learn how to participate in this backyard preservation.
