You Can Ride To The Capitol Tuesday

The annual event starts at 10:45 a.m. at the East Lake Marta Station parking lot. It's an excused absence for students in the City Schools of Decatur.

Expect to see a bunch of cyclists on DeKalb Avenue/East Howard on Tuesday morning.

Scores of riders from Decatur and Avondale Estates will meet at the East Lake Marta Station for the eighth annual Ride to the Capitol.

The ride to raise support for improved bike riding conditions will leave at 10:45 a.m. Decatur Commissioner Fred Boykin, owner of a bike shop, is a local organizer. He said in an email,

Over 40 area mayors and elected officials are scheduled to join us. Lt. Governor Casey Cagle will address the crowd from the capitol steps. Event is open to riders of all abilities including kids! Through the efforts of Decatur’s Safe Routes To School program, this event is an excused absence from school (cyclists get back to Decatur around 1:30 pm).

The ride will have a police escort. Rides are also expected to leave from Roswell and other locations in the metro area.
