Women for Obama, Romney Plan Simultaneous Rallies in Decatur

Though they don't have a permit, Women for Romney plan a "counter rally" when Women for Obama gather Saturday morning at the Decatur Court Square.

The full range of American political opinion will be on display Saturday morning when Women for Romney and Women for Obama hold simultaneous rallies at the Decatur Court Square.

Women for Obama are scheduled to rally outside the old DeKalb Courthouse from 10 a.m. to noon, according to an Obama-Biden campaign page.

Though they haven't obtained a permit from the City of Decatur, Women for Romney have planned a "counter rally" at the same spot from 9:45 a.m. to 11 a.m, according to an event posting on the Georgia GOP webpage.

Linda Harris, spokeswoman for the City of Decatur, said Thursday afternoon that city has already issued a permit for the Obama event but not for the Romney rally.

The city wouldn't normally issue permits for two events at the same location, she said. She was trying to reach the Romney event organizers late Thursday.

Chris Kelleher, spokesman for the Georgia Republican Party, said the DeKalb GOP organized the Romney event and was aware of the Obama event.

A phone call to the contact number for the DeKalb GOP was not answered.
