Today: Decatur City Hall Closed, Avondale Estates Open

It's a long holiday weekend. How will local governments and businesses be affected?

Here's how the Fourth of July will affect local government in Decatur and Avondale Estates.

Decatur

City Hall. Closed Thursday, July 4, and Friday, July 5. Reopens Monday, July 8. Public safety departments will still operate.

Trash pickup: The Decatur Minute says: "Normal services for Thursday, July 4 and Friday, July 5 will be on Wednesday, July 3. This schedule change is not listed on the trash pick-up door hanger that is distributed every November, so please help spread the word to your neighbors."

Avondale Estates

City Hall. Closed Thursday, July 4. Reopens Friday, July 5. Public safety departments will still operate.

Trash pickup. Service for July 4 has been rescheduled July 5.

City Schools of Decatur

Central office. It has been closed this week and will be closed all next week, too. Reopens Monday, July 8.

DeKalb County

Courthouse. Closed on July 4. Reopens July 5.

Trash pickup. The county website says, "No collection services on Thursday July 4th. Regular garbage collection schedule will run one day late thru Saturday July 6, 2013. Thursday’s blue box and yard waste recycling will be serviced on Friday (7/5)."

DeKalb County Schools

Central office. Closed July 4. Reopens July 5.

Banks and credit unions

Most will close July 4 and reopen July 5.

Decatur Post Office

Closed Thursday, open until 2 p.m. Friday and regular hours Saturday.
