1. The cat lady. Film and TV actress Gina Gershon talks about In Search of Cleo, her book about the people she met while looking for a missing cat in the backstreets of Los Angeles. Starts at 7 p.m. at Presser Hall at Agnes Scott College. Free.

2. Happy birthday to Piece of Cake. The local chain of cake shops is celebrating its 27th birthday. Drop by the Decatur shop at 307 E. College Ave. for samples and prizes throughout the day. Free.

3. Anniversary of influential book. Fifty years ago, Michael Harrington published The Other America: Poverty in the United States, which inspired the 1960s War on Poverty. The Metro Atlanta Democratic Socialists of America will mark the anniversary with a documentary film and discussion. Free at 6:30 p.m. at the Decatur Library.
