The Week Ahead in Decatur and Avondale Estates

You can drink and draw at Mellow Mushroom, dance in red at the DeKalb History Center, meet Decatur City Commission candidates and listen to the Indigo Girls at the Friends School.

Here are some things you need to know about the week in Decatur and Avondale Estates. For a full listing of things to do, look at the Patch calendar of events.

Drink and Draw Decatur. Come to Mellow Mushroom in Decatur for figure drawing with live models in amazing outfits from your favorite comic books and movies. 8 p.m. Monday. You have to buy your own beer and food but specials run all night. Admission is free.

Public meetings. Avondale Estates Historic Preservation Commission at 6:30 p.m. Monday. Decatur City Commission at 7:30 p.m. Monday.Β  Decatur Active Living Board at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The Big Red Ball. This evening of dinner, drinks and dance benefits the non-profit 50 Cents. Period., which raises money to buy sanitary products for young women in developing nations. 7 p.m. Friday at the DeKalb History Center at 101 E. Court Square, Decatur. $115.

Paint recycling fundraiser. Get rid of your old paint at Decatur Presbyterian Church at 205 Sycamore St., Decatur. Starts at 10 a.m. Saturday. $3.

Commission candidates forum. Get to know Decatur City Commission District 1 candidates Greg Copeland and Scott Drake at this forum and meet-and-greet. 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Church at Decatur Heights, 735 Sycamore Drive Decatur.

Bluegrass and prose fundraiser. Enjoy an evening of pickin’ and prose at the Decatur Library. The Dappled Grays will perform and authors Joshilyn Jackson and Karen White will talk about their work and sign books. The evening will include southern food and a silent auction. 7 p.m. Saturday. $75 at the door, $65 in advance.

The Indigo Girls. Decatur's homegrown stars will perform a benefit concert for the Friends School of Atlanta. 4 p.m. Sunday at the school at 862 Columbia Drive, Decatur. $40 in advance.
