The Week Ahead in Decatur and Avondale Estates

It will be a busy week with an election, an author appearance, the DeKalb History Center's annual meeting, a family fitness day at the Museum School and several public meetings.

Here are five things to know about the coming week in Decatur and Avondale Estates. Check the Patch calendar for a full list of events.

1. There's an election Tuesday. Greg Coleson and Scott Drake are running for the District 1 seat on Decatur City Commission. Polls in District 1 will be open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

2. Author appearance. Tara Conklin talks about and signs her new book, The House Girl, at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday at the Decatur Library. Free.

3. DeKalb History Center annual meeting and silent auction. This fund-raiser starts at 6 p.m. Friday at the history center at 101 E Court Square, Decatur.

4. Family Fun Fitness Day. The Museum School has games, rides and health exhibits starting at 10 a.m. Saturday at 923 Forrest Blvd., Decatur. Free admission.

5. Public meetings. Avondale Estates Planning and Zoning Board at 6 p.m. Monday. Decatur City Commission at 7:30 p.m. Monday. Lake Avondale Advisory Board at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Avondale Estates City Commission at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday. Decatur Downtown Development Authority at 8 a.m. Friday.
