Repairing Wreck Damage Slows Traffic On West Trinity Thursday

Trucks struck utility poles on Sunday and Wednesday.

Update: The repair work ended around midday Thursday.

The traffic slowdown on West Trinity continues.

On Thursday, traffic moved slowly as one lane of the street was blocked so DeKalb County crews could repair two utility poles and power lines damaged this week by transfer trucks.

Both those wrecks, and , caused total blockage of the streets for hours. The utility poles are about half a block apart.

Patch asked Decatur City Manager Peggy Merriss how much the city had to shell out for damages. Here's her reply:

The poles weren’t the City’s – they belong to Georgia Power.  As I understand it, a traffic signal controller line was snapped and has to be replaced.  That’s DeKalb County’s responsibility.  I don’t think the City had any significant “damages”.  There may be some staff costs in terms of public safety response but we would not normally assess those costs for an accident.

Patch also asked the Decatur police if any tickets were written to the drivers of the trucks. We'll let you know when we know.
