Prepare for the Heat Wave

It might get as high at 106 on Saturday. Here are some quick tips for coping with soaring temperatures in the coming days.

How hot is it going to be?

Way, way over 100 degrees. Saturday looks like the hottest day.

  • Friday: 103/74. Zero chance of rain.
  • Saturday: 106/77. 10 percent chance of rain.
  • Sunday: 102/76. Zero chance of rain.
  • Monday: 98/75. 10 percent chance of rain.

Suffice it to say it will be dangerously hot.

The best advice is common sense: Drink plenty of fluids and stay out of the midday sun. Here are some other tips for dealing with the heat and staying safe:

Signs of deyhdration: Fatigue, weakness, muscle cramping, irritability,Β thirst and headache. More information.

Signs of heat exhaustion: Those same symptoms plus a rapid heartbeat, heavy sweating, nausea, cool or moist skin and concentrated urine. More information.

Signs of heat stroke: Very warm or hot skin, altered mental status, elevated body temperature, fainting or passing out. More information.

For runners: Don't dilute sports drinks with water. Drink them full strength. Wear synthetic clothing that won't absorb sweat.

Runners in the Peachtree Road Race should prepare for heat, as always. The forecast for that day includes a hight temperature of 91 degrees with a 20 percent chance of rain. But it will be cooler when the race starts earlier that morning
