Monday Essentials: St. Simons Book Authors At Decatur Library

Here are five things to know about the week ahead in Decatur and Avondale Estates.


Learn about the island. Jingle Davis and Benjamin Gallard, who wrote Island Time: An Illustrated History of St. Simons Island, Georgia, will talk about their book at 7:15 p.m. Monday at the Decatur Library. Free.

Flea market. There will be plenty of bargains at this sale sponsored by the United Methodist Children’s Home Auxiliary. Starts at 9 a.m. Friday at 500 S. Columbia Drive in Decatur. Free admission.

Sacred harp singing. You can learn early American hymns sung in this powerful, exuberant style. Beginners welcome. 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Emory Presbyterian Church at 1886 N. Decatur Road NE. Free.

Stories on the Square. This open mic for storytellers starts at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Famous Pub at 2947 N. Druid Hills Road.

Public meetings. Decatur School Board at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Avondale Estates Downtown Development Authority at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Decatur Downtown Development Authority at 8 a.m. Friday.
