Last Chance: Some Post Offices Open Late On April 17 for Tax Filers

The Decatur Post Office will be open until 6:30 p.m.

Some Atlanta post offices will be open late on April 17 to accommodate last-minute tax filers.

The at 520 W. Ponce de Leon Ave. will be open until 6:30 p.m. instead of the normal 5 p.m.

The main Atlanta Post Office at 3900 Crown Road will be open and fully staffed until midnight, as always. The Boggs Road Postal Store at 1605 Boggs Road in Duluth will close counter service at 7 p.m. as usual, but will have staff on site to until midnight to handle last-minute tax filings.

Taxpayers get two extra days this year because of Emancipation Day, a legal holiday in Washington, D.C., that will be observed on Monday, April 16.

Federal tax code says filing deadlines cannot fall on Saturdays, Sundays or holidays.
