Gene Lee To Run Again in Avondale Estates

Terry Gaiger is also up for re-election on the Avondale Estates City Commission.

Gene Lee says he'll run for re-election to the Avondale Estates City Commission in November.

In an email, Lee said:

I feel like I have learned quite a lot serving on this Board, both about myself and about my City. I have been fortunate enough, like the rest of us, to have survived the recession, and the stretch of time that many have referred to as one of the greatest challenges in our nation's history. I have seen many things while on this Board over the past 3-1/2 years, and have met some extraordinary people along the way.

We have gotten many things accomplished during my time on this Board, including infrastructure improvements, new zoning ordinances, vast expansion due to annexation, and even the growth of business development just to name a few. All of this, while maintaining fiscally responsible practices and procedures that our City can survive the hard times, and continue to flourish when the good times come around again.

I have put my heart and soul into my efforts, and have been privileged to work alongside several other wonderful people who have done the same. We have made it through the hard times together, and I hate to see it end now that times are improving.

Therefore, I have decided after much soul searching and analysis, that I will be putting my name in for re-election for this Fall to the BOMC of Avondale Estates. Granted, there may be something unforeseen that comes up that may force me to reconsider or remove my name.

Barring those things however, I would like to be considered as a candidate for another four year term on the Board, and hope that my efforts over the past 4 years will show that I can do a great service to this City, as it has always done a great service to me. It has been my home for almost a decade, and although certain aspects of my life may be changing, my love for the historic City of Avondale Estates will endure.

I would be honored to put my name on the ballot, and hope that this comes as great news to many Avondale residents.  Thank you for your time and concern, and please feel free to contact me with any other questions you may have.

Terry Giager, the mayor pro tem, also is up for re-election. When asked about his plans, Giager said in an email: "That will depend on how much hate mail I get between now and sign up time!"

Qualifying for candidates will be Aug. 26-30 at Avondale Estates City Hall. For information about the election, go to the City of Avondale Estates website.
