Gas Prices Going Up

Be prepared to pay more at the pump as we head into Labor Day.

Gas prices are rising acrosss Georgia, including the Decatur and Avondale Estates area.

Late Sunday, the lowest price was $3.55 at RaceTrac at 3858 Covington Highway and QuikTrip at 4113 Covington Highway, according to www.georgiagasprices.com.

That's 20 cents higher than the price at those same stations late Thursday.

Jessica Brady, AAA spokeswoman, told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that gas prices normally go up in the summer, partly because of hurricane season. She said,

"It does look like prices are going to increase throughout the month. For those looking to travel, either last-minute summer travel or for Labor Day Weekend, you're going to need to budget more for fuel costs."

It's unclear what effect the hurricane heading toward the Gulf Coast will have on gas prices, but it probably won't be good.

According to www.georgiagasprices.com, these places close to the 30030 zip code also sold cheap gas Sunday night.

$3.56 -- Citgo, 4823 Covington Hwy & Glenwood Rd

$3.71 -- Shell, 6114 Covington Hwy & Panola Rd.

$3.74 -- Exxon, 4101 Memorial Dr & Covington Hwy.
