Decatur Post Office Open Late for Tax Day

If you end up filing late in the day, there are some post offices open past 5 p.m. within a short drive of the neighborhood.

Decatur is among several metro-Atlanta Post Offices that will stay open past 5 p.m. to accommodate last-minute tax filers on April 15, the tax filing deadline.

Nearby locations, and their hours, include:

  • Decatur, 520 W Ponce De Leon Ave., Decatur, GA 30030 -- Closes at 6:30 p.m.
  • Pharr Road in Buckhead, 575 Pharr Rd NE, Atlanta, GA 30355 -- Closes at 8 p.m.
  • Atlanta Main Post Office, 3900 Crown Road SE, Atlanta -- Closes at midnight

See the attached PDF for other Georgia locations with late business hours.

When dropping off tax forms on April 15, the Atlanta District Manager Sal Vacca recommends visiting post offices early in the day to avoid long lines. In addition, Vacca recommends giving returns to outside collection employees (where available), using Self Service Ship and Mail Centers for stamp purchases and double checking returns for the proper address and correct postage.

Customers should also note that all mail weighing 13 ounces or more must be presented at the retail counter.

If you are not enclosing a payment, Georgia taxpayers can send most tax forms, including 1040, 1040A and 1040 EZ to: Department of the Treasury, Internal Revenue Service, Kansas City, MO 64999-0002.

If you are enclosing a payment, send to: Internal Revenue Service, P.O. Box 931000, Louisville, KY 40293-1000.
