Decatur Police, Oakhurst Association To Meet

Oakhurst Neighborhood Association members are certain to ask police about the brazen crimes that happened last week.

Crime will be a major topic when Decatur police leaders attend the Oakhurst Neighborhood Association meeting at 7 p.m. Monday at the Solarium at 321 W. Hill St.

Police almost always attend these monthly meetings, but community anxiety is high because so many brazen, face-to-face crimes occurred last week. Several happened in Oakhurst.

Police reported two carjackings, the robbery of three women at the Oakhurst Park playground, the attempted theft of a man's laptop and the snatch robbery of an office worker's laptop and purse.

The suspects used pistols in all but the snatch robbery. They fired the gun into the air during the playground robbery and into the ground during the attempted laptop theft. Nobody was shot or seriously injured.

Police have said these appear to be crimes of opportunity committed by juveniles from outside Decatur. Neighborhood association members are urging a good turnout.

Police will also meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday with the Winnona Park Neighborhood Association at the Decatur Recreation Center at 231 Sycamore Street.
