8 Decatur Runners at Boston Marathon as Explosion Rocks Race

It's unknown if any local runners were injured. Boston Police said the blast occurred just before 3 p.m. Police say at least three are dead and scores were injured.

Boston Police are reporting at least three people died and scores were injured after two explosions occurred Monday afternoon near the finish line of the Boston Marathon.

Eight of the marathon runners in this year's race listed the Decatur community as their hometown.

An accounting of those runners was not available, but Luis Dominguez of the  Big Peach Running Co. store in Decatur said he'd heard from some local runners who were not injured.

Video of the incident shows the explosion knocking runners and bystanders to the ground following the blast.

The Boston Marathon released a statement around 4 p.m. that said, "There were two bombs that exploded near the finish line in today's Boston Marathon. We are working with law enforcement to understand what exactly has happened."

The Associated Press is reporting at least two other explosive devices were found. 

The American Red Cross Safe and Well site has been activated.
