5 Things to Know Today: July 9, 2012

Pay attention, parents of aspiring football players, math lovers and fans of the South and Ireland.

Good morning, Decatur and Avondale Estates. Here are 5 Things to know about today.

1. It's cooling down. The high today will be around 92, with lows in the low 70s. Chance of rain is 40 percent. Temps should drop the rest of the week.

2. Decatur Youth Football Camp. DHS Coach Brad Waggoner says kids can sign up Monday morning. The camp runs 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday, July 9-13, at Decatur High. It for kids K-8th grade.

3. Math nerds needed. The public can evaluate math material being considered by the state for adoption from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday-Thursday at the Druid Hills High cafeteria.

Β 4. The Shamrock and the Peach. Irish chef Judith McLoughlin and her husband Gary, an artist and photographer, will talk about their new book, The Shamrock and the Peach, which explores the shared cultural heritages of Ireland and the American South. Free, and it has free food, too. Starts at 7:15 p.m. at the Decatur Library.

5. Public meetings: Zoning Board of Appeals at 7:30 a.m. in Decatur City Hall. Willis Park Ad Hoc Committee at 7 p.m. in Avondale Estates City Hall.
