4. Free class. The National Alliance on Mental Illness DeKalb presents a free 12-week course for family caregivers of individuals with serious mental illness. The class starts Aug. 26 in Decatur. Contact Janice at 770-498-5992 to sign up.

5. On this date. In 1933, a 10-foot long rattlesnake with a girth of 18 inches and 61 rattles was killed near Waynesboro, Ga. It was thought to be the largest rattlesnake killed in Georgia to that point.
