Delay in Fund Approval for New DeKalb Animal Services Shelter

New DeKalb Animal Shelter. Delay after delay by the Commissioners of their approval of the allocated RZB proceeds for new Animal Shelter. Lives are on the line!

Many DeKalb residents have been following and attending commissioners' meetings regarding the funding of $2.75 million in Recovery Zone Bond proceeds which have been slated to go toward the construction of the new animal shelter.

The Advisory Board, which was appointed by the office of the DeKalb CEO, completed an exhaustive study and made recommendations that the shelter be built on PDK site on Chamblee-Dunwoody Road. There has been delay after delay on the part of several Commissioners, including Barnes-Sutton, whose constituents read this Patch.

A committee has been formed to revisit the recommendations, modality and why certain sites were eliminated. The PDK site is best for supporters, volunteers and adoption from the shelter. I see pets as living, loving, feeling and loyal beings who deserve better treatment than they are receiving at the present shelter which is a horrible environment. Most never leave, as it's a "killing field" as well.

DeKalb County is proud of being a "Green" and progressive county, but when it comes to treatment of its animals, it is presently in the dark ages.

I strongly urge all resident animal lovers who read this post to contact your commissioners by phone, by email, or by letter and tell them that it is urgent that these funds be provided to begin the construction of the new shelter at the PDK Site II recommended by the appointed Advisory Board.
