CORE announces Jeanene Williams Scholarship Fund

CORE — professional dance organization and home of CORE Performance Company — has announced the creation of the Jeanene Williams Scholarship Fund, created in memory of Felicia Jeanene Williams, a long time Board member and supporter of CORE who passed away in February 2013. The Scholarship Fund will offer tuition support to participants interested in attending CORE’s Teacher Training Institute (TTI).

“Jeanene was a passionate supporter of arts education and an inspiring and energetic member of our Board of Directors,” said Sue Schroeder, Artistic Director of CORE.  “By creating this Scholarship Fund in her honor, we will continue her dedication to training artists and providing professional opportunities for those who may not otherwise be able to pursue their dreams.”

Established in 2002, CORE’s TTI is a training program to develop, inspire and empower instructors to teach dance and kinetic learning in community enrichment programs and settings. Originally developed through a partnership with CORE, Moving in the Spirit, Dance Educators of Georgia and the Atlanta Ballet, TTI certifies instructors that commit to dance and kinetic learning techniques as tools to access and develop learners that may be challenged by traditional cognitive teaching models.

From Jeanene’s husband, Welvin Williams:

“I offer my full support of this opportunity as testimony to Jeanene. She had the gift of God to make ‘it’ happen. Jeanene was so involved in CORE and their commitment to making art accessible to all. She would see this Fund as an opportunity to offer a great gift to the community, to make ‘it’ happen.”
