What Should Go Here? Downtown Avondale

This whole block will be renovated. What kind of businesses would you like to see moving in?

New busineses may be heading to Avondale Estates.

, stretching from the Towne Cinema to the Trilogy bookshop space

The developers say they want to make this part of town and go to restaurants, coffee shops and art galleries.

What kind of businesses would you like to see? Specifically, what would be a good fit for the Towne Cinema space?

About this column: Every week or so, we'll post a picture of a vacant store or lot in Decatur and Avondale Estates. You can tell us what you think should replace the empty space. Know of an empty building we should highlight? E-mail ralph.ellis@patch.com.

Where exactly is never-go-there land? I have lived in AE since 1999- never heard of this...

Would love a restaurant or bar that has live music on the weekends. Also, Thumbs Up did really well here...we definitely could use a sit down breakfast/brunch/lunch destination!

Did someone wake me from my virtual slumber? Ah yes, downtown Avondale Estates, in all it's lame glory! Here comes a fancy "development team" to ruin my lame fantasy. Not me...although I think Fred Willard is a solid supporting actor on many television shows; kudos Mr. Willard! ;-)

That giant hedge in AE visually and physically separates the houses from the businesses, making it easy for residents to forget what's on offer in the area. Make the area more walk/bikable and bring in a new pub (NOT a sports bar) with live music, a good restaurant or two, and that Town Cinema would make a great - cinema! Art house films, kid's matinees, etc. Or it would make a great event space or gallery or yoga/Pilates studio.
