Update: It's Time To Vote For Decatur As The 'Tastiest Town'

Go to a Southern Living website to cast your vote.

UPDATE: You can now go online to vote for Decatur as the 'Tastiest Town' in the South.

Visit the Southern Living website, click on Decatur and follow the instructions.

The magazine says, "Cast your vote daily from "December 22 through January 31 and you'll help name The South's Tastiest Town to be announced in the April issue of Southern Living magazine. Plus, you'll be entered for a chance to win a $2,500 cash prize for a trip to any Tasty Town of your choice."

As of 11 p.m. Thursday, Decatur was in sixth place with 184 votes. Lafayette, La., was in first place with 1,265 votes.

Decatur has entered the big time, at least in the food world.

Southern Living named it one of the 10 "Tastiest Towns" in the South, characterizing it as "an emerging mecca for foodies who relish DeKalb Farmers Market and destinations like , , and the ."

Readers will get to vote on where Decatur stands against its competition, which includes Baltimore, Birmingham, Charleston, Charlottesville, Va.; Houston; Lafayetta, La.; Louisville, Ky.; New Orleans and Raleigh.

Of that bunch, Decatur is by far the smallest, with about 20,000 people. Charlottesville is next, with about 43,000 people.

The magazine said it chose its 10 Tastiest Towns based on the following criteria: Food as a cultural identity, growth of a culinary minded community, diverse cuisine at a variety of price points, local and sustainable food practices, hot chefs on the rise, and an abundance of buzz-worthy food events.

Voting begins Dec. 23. Patch will let you know where to click to vote.
