Revolution Donuts To Open Friday

, so it's only fitting that Revolution Donuts will open in Decatur to dispense those tasty wheels of love.

The shop at 908 W. College Ave. will officially begin serving at 7 a.m.

Besides donnuts, the will sell muffins, scones and other baked goods, owner Maria Riggs said. Everything will be made from scratch, without preservatives.

Riggs said the shop will have one gluten-free offering in the beginning, such as a cookie, but she hopes to expand the gluten-free line.

Revolution Donuts is able to open because of a Kickstarter campaign that raised $12,271. The goal was reached four days ago

The Kickstarter website explains the mission of Revolution Donuts,

We are a small family-owned start-up baking company, formerly operating under the name "Little Red Hen Bakeshop.” We started baking in our home kitchen - then in borrowed commercial spaces - selling our treats at local area farm stand markets, where we have built up a loyal customer base.  It has long been our dream to open a seven-day-a-week brick and mortar operation, a neighborhood cafe that combines hand-crafted treats and delicious locally roasted coffee.  Revolution Doughnuts was born out of this dream.
