Popeye's Coming to North DeKalb Mall Area

The chicken restaurant plans to take over the Gold & Diamond Gallery on North Druid Hills Road.

The area is slowly turning into the community's chicken district it seems.

Popeye's Louisiana Kitchen is knocking down the on North Druid Hills Road and moving in, according to Tomorrow's News Today.

This just about a month after .

Here's more information on Popeye's from Tomorrow's News Today:

Popeyes plans to convert the structure erect a new structure and is applying to both rezone the building from NS (Neighborhood Shopping) District to C1 (Local Commerical) District and to add a drive-thru window.  Obviously, the building would change in shape and appearance and will yield a 2,100 square-foot restaurant.

Keep in mind, behind the shuttered Checker's building as well.

Maybe a better district name would be the Coronary Corridor.

Just what we need along that stretch -- more fast food and more fast food traffic jams ... not that I don't do my share of eating along there!

Are you excited about Popeye's?

Do they serve spinach? If not, they need to add it to fight all the bigotry and hatred in that place right down the street (sarcasm). I've never eaten at Popeye's.....once you've eaten the best (Chick-Fil-A) the rest would be nothing but big disappointments; however, I am happy to see the area being re-developed.....it was looking really junky. Now if the owner of ND Mall would just bulldoze the place and put something there that people actually want and would go there and shop, I'd be a happy man. It's a perfect place for both a WalMart and Sam's or a Costco....anything but what's there.

We should rename that area "Heart Attack Highway". Walmart would fit perfectly next to Home Depot. I do not understand why these fast food restaurants are approved? I rather see that whole area knocked down and trees be planted in the area. Ugh!

Traffic is already hideous along that part of L'ville at rush hour, any more development on that drag next to Zaxbys is going to really make traffic bad. And for some completely unknown reason, they put up a light to stop people from flowing onto 78, but there isn't enough lead room for it. So cars literally get backed up all the way to L'ville. There were not problems merging onto 78 before, total waste of money and only made a bad situation on L'ville worse.
