Georgia Tops for Businesses Owned by Women

Georgia ranks first in the nation for growth in women-owned businesses, according to an American Express report.

Georgia ranks first in the nation for growth in women-owned businesses, according to the American Express OPEN State of Women-Owned Businesses Report.

The state has an estimated 317,200 women-owned firms (up 117.9 percent since 1997) that employ 240,200 people and generate $45.6 million in revenue, says the Atlanta Business Chronicle.

Atlanta’s women-owned businesses have increased by 63.1 percent in that time to 202,400 firms that employ 158,200 people and generate $33.4 million in revenue, the publication says.

Nationally, the number of women-owned businesses has increased 68 percent to 9,87,200 firms since 1997.Β
