The DeKalb Workforce Development Department is hosting its seventh annual Workforce Development Day Job Fair: Making ONE DeKalb Work on Sept. 21.

The fair is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Maloof Auditorium, 1300 Commerce Drive in Decatur.

The event offers job seekers the opportunity to meet with representatives from various departments and companies, including ONE DeKalb Works contractors and private sector employers.

DeKalb Workforce Development’s previous job fair held in April 2012 was aimed at connecting skilled jobseekers with employers actively seeking qualified staff.

The event drew an attendance of more than 1,300 visitors.

As a result of the fair, 20 percent of those seeking gainful employment were hired and more than 65 percent have undergone some aspect of the interview process. Recruiting companies included:

  • Comcast
  • Sears
  • TJ Maxx
  • All (n)1 Security
  • Wal-Mart
  • Life House Partners Inc.
  • Manpower
  • DeKalb County Public Safety

They reported new hires in all areas with salaries ranging from $16,000 to $85,000.

The upcoming Workforce Development Day Job Fair will give job seekers the opportunity to meet with industry professionals who will critique résumés, provide interviewing and networking tips and explain why personal branding and marketing is beneficial to their job search.

Job seekers will also have the opportunity to visit the Mobile Career Unit in order to apply for positions, construct a resume and meet with a workforce professional.

Jobseekers interested in participating in the Workforce Development Job Fair should register online.
