Decatur Will Celebrate The Season With Tree Lighting, Dance, Bonfire

All the events will happen on Thursdays in the Decatur Square.

There will be a lot happening in the Decatur Square the next three Thursdays. C City Hall says you can plan on these events:

  • Dec. 1 -- The third annual Decatur Christmas Tree Lighting will be at 7 p.m. on East Court Square with the tree atop the Little Shop of Stories.  Students from the 4/5 Academy will sing carols and Santa Claus will pay a visit.
  • Dec. 8 -- The Gathering Wild Dance Company will provide a vocal/dance/lantern-lit performance on at 7 p.m. R&B singer Apollo Levine and others will perform a mid-winter “ambient performance” at sunset.  The performance will be repeated at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10.
  •  Dec. 15 -- The Decatur Business Association will hold its annual Bonfire/Marshmallow Roast at 7 p.m. Santa will accept wish lists and community members can meet Izo, an actor dressed as a 5-foot snowman who has been touring the state as part of a tourism promotion.

Many downtown merchants will continue the Terrific Thursdays program in which shops and restaurants offer specials, discounts and free beverages appetizers on Dec. 1, 8 and 15.
