Decatur Diner Scores Low on Recent Health Inspection

The newly opened diner has until May 11 to comply with health inspectors.

The newly opened  did not make the grade on a recent health inspection.

As reported on the Decatur Metro blog, the diner scored a 50 on its latest health inspection report and a grade of "U." 

According to the DeKalb County Environmental Health inspection report, the Decatur Diner's issues included employee hand washing, and food and chemical storage.

The report said employees did not wash hands properly and "toxic chemicals were improperly stored above the clean dishes in the dish area. Easy Off and sanitizer stored with dishes; Ecolab stored with mustard and hot sauce and glass cleaner was stored with cranberry sauces and vegetable oils."

The restaurant also was out of compliance in food storage, including in the walk in cooler. The report said food items including tomatoes, pickles and vegetables were stored on the floor of the walk in cooler. To be incompliance, food must be stored six inches off the ground.

Most of the items were corrected on site however, Decatur Diner has until May 11 to get in compliance of other items, such as a repair to a cooling drawer.

A food service establishment that is graded as a “U” on two consecutive routine inspections will be asked to voluntarily close until all violations are corrected and/ or have enforcement action taken to suspend or revoke the food service permit, according to the report.
